You can write boot readout or frf->bin file with kess obd, but you need to choose correct protocol. Kess will automatically do tprot patch in this procedure. But you need to know what you are doing. Checksum correction from alientech is sometimes a little bit poor if you change something outside map area. But if you fail and have made full bootmode readout before you can recover ecu…

 

With kess v2 v4.036 firmware with update board work 100% on this ecu. tested from me Friday. all ok!

With kess v5.017 eu version, I read the file via bootmode tricore and wanted to upload the same original file by obd and get the message: file corrupted or not correct
 

With MPPS V18 ECU Flashing cable:

 

you can make with Mpps the bootfile OBD-enabled and then write OBD. The same option should also be possible with KTAG. Have not yet tried to write the OBD-Mpps file with Kess via OBD. With Mpps, 100%

 

But i recommend you’d better have it via BOOT mode.

 

With MPPS v18, read and write 17c46 in boot mode. No issues!

You need to take the ECU apart and connect resistors etc to the circuit board

(kess v2 or ktag don’t need resistor for this ecu. But personally, I do not recommend you to write with Kess clone, Ktag smoothly)

 

Only in bootmode for ecu with Tprot.
Even if you would read-it, then you can’t write-it.
So, open-it and go with the resistors.
It surely is the only way for you.

 

You can only check TP level this way. Put ecu in boot mode if you wanna read write

Volvo’s CEM are located under the co-pilot airbag on the left, remove the debris box

Note: the new/old CEM box looks the same, but with different circuits.

 

For the old version of the CEM box:

when opening the lid, in the back of the circuit board, please pay attention to the black column with blue circles, which are the four positioning points that need to match stably with the white column of RN-01 board.

Note: The circuit board is coated with insulating glue, it is required to use the washing plate water to wash off the blue area of the insulation coating in the contact point (solder joint) , or power can not go through , if the needle of RN-01 board is broken, it will do to wire in the corresponding locations.

Volvo’s KVM modules are located after the rear box, in the upside of the right rear wheel position (for 16 S60L car, dismantle from the right rear door to the wheel direction);

Open the module cover

Use the washing plate water to wash off the blue area of the insulation coating, or power can not go through.

The most important note:

To failures in Volvo KVM data reading (coz the chip model is different), please do as follows:

① Use programmer to read out the data (.bin file);

② Contact and send the EEPROM data to K518ISE after-sales service, the engineers will convert the data into a dedicated file;

③  Connect K518ISE with computer and put the dedicated file into “file —> feature_35” folder;

④ Following the operations to select the KVM data from the process.

 

Step 3: Program smart keys via OBD

Refer to the following notes:

  1. For 6 keys, duringoperation, you need to firstly insert the keyinto the key slot and then operate by following the directions.
  2. For key recognition failure, please make sure the smart keyis not locked, aslocked key cannot be programmed, the fresh new key generally will not be locked.
  3. K518ISE has identification& unlock functions, which will test and identify whether a key is an unused one or not. If the remote control is invalid after the key is programmed (on condition that the battery is well installed and the remote control frequency is correct), try to import the CEM security data to unlock the key and then program again.

Note: Only the key of this car or corresponding car can be unlock after reading the CEM security data.

4,When installing Volvo battery, please note that the two batteries are placed in an overlap way and separated by a white paper in the middle, so please do not just replace the above one.

Dismantling is very simple also , just remove the metal key, and gently pry with a not so sharp knife in the same place where the metal key lies.

How to Register BMW Battery with Foxwell NT510

Foxwell NT510 is more than just an OBD2 scan tool. If you buy the scanner you get to have your own BMW diagnostic scanner that you can use if in the future you have problems with engine, airbag, transmission, ABS and more.  As we all know NT510 will register BMW new battery, but have no idea how to.

Here’s the little guide on registering BMW battery with NT510 BMW scanner.

 

Background information: 

What is BMW Battery Registration?

During BMW battery registration process the following happens.

  • Battery capacity is set to 80%
  • Current Odometer reading is stored
  • Delete stored battery statistics such as:
    • current,
    • voltage,
    • battery charge level.
  • Stored temperature statistics are deleted

These steps are completed by the BMW scan tool that you will use to complete BMW battery registration. Don’t need to worry about completing these steps one by one. Just complete new BMW battery programming as outlined below.

BMW registration is very simple and straight forward procedure as long as you don’t change battery type and rating. During the battery registration process old battery charging history gets deleted. Now your BMW DME module knows the battery is new and doesn’t require as aggressive chargings as the old battery. This step should be performed every time the battery gets replaced.

If you change the battery rating and type you will need to perform coding as well to let your BMW (IBS / Power Module) know how to handle the new battery.

Better stick with an AGM (Advanced Glass Mat) battery instead of switching to lead acid batteries if the stock was AGM battery.

 

Step 2: Register a new battery

Locate the on board diagnostic (OBD – 2) port under the dashboard near your brake pedal. Plug your BMW Foxwell NT510 scan tool into this port.

Turn the key to option II but don’t not start engine. If you have a Push Start button press it a couple of times. Don’t press the brake pedal when you press the start button. All the dashboard lights should turn on.

Register the new BMW battery with NT510:

1.Plug your Foxwell NT510 BMW scanner into the OBD2 port under the dashboard.

2.Turn ignition on, the key to position II. Do not start your car.

3. Select BMW. Scan for VIN. It will automatically look up the VIN number. Once VIN is found press OK.

4. Scroll down to the Body menu 4.

5. Scroll down to Power Supply (Battery) and press Enter.

6. Select option 2 for Battery registration.

In the next screen, you can perform the following.

  1. Register new battery. Battery replacement is the same as the original.
  2. Change battery capacity to higher or lower.
  3. Change battery type between AGM and lead acid battery.

NOTE:

  • Do not unplug the scanner during the battery registration process
  • Do not turn off the ignition during the battery programming.
  • You don’t need to run option 2 and 3 if your replacement battery has the same specs as the old battery. Just new battery registration is all you need to complete.

How to use Lonsdor K518 to Program Volvo S60 Smart Key

This is the demo guide on programming Volvo S60 keyless smart key by using Lonsdor K518ISE key programmer.

Function
1. Add smart key: to add a smart key or program on all key lost;
2. Delete smart key: delete the already programmed smart key;
3. Read the CEM security data:  dismantle & read CEM to backup security data (this is a must before programming);
4. Read the KVM security data: dismantle & read KVM to backup security data (this is a must before programming);
5. Key identification and unlocking: to detect whether the key is a new unused one. If the remote control is invalid after programming (on condition that the battery has been installed and the remote frequency is correct), try to import the CEM safety data to unlock the key and program again after unlocking.
Note: it can only unlock the CEM safety data of the vehicle or the corresponding vehicle
6. Module identification: identify the body CEM / KVM module status, please do this before all the operation, this function can ensure the module status, and distinguish between full-keyless / half-keyless. In addition, when the safety data backup is completed, and the module has been installed where it should be, please perform “module identification” again just in case and then proceed programming.
Note:
1. When programming Volvo 6-button keys, please be sure to dismantle&read the CEM and KVM first, as to their location and how to read, please refer to the “Operation” or “Reference”
2.First time to use the adapter, you need to bind it with K518ISE. Go to the K518ISE home page and choose “Settings -> Bind adapter”, following the direction to finish binding. One K518ISE host can bind up to 5 adapters, and the bound adapter can not be bound to other K518ISE hosts. Once bound, no need to bind again.
3. For the 6-button key, you need to dismantle & read the CEM in the co-pilot storage box,as well as the KVM in the right trunk to backup security data.

Operation:

Module identification
Before all operation, please connect the car OBD to “Module identification”, which can detect the module (CEM / KVM) status, distinguish if the car is full key-less or half-key-less.
Test status results: (1) Installed. (Indicating that the corresponding module status is normal)
(2) No installation or communication failure. (That the car does not have the corresponding module, or the module status is abnormal)
After the backup of the safety data is completed, install back all the modules accordingly. Please do “Module identification” again, check to ensure that the module is well installed and in normal status. And then do programming operation.
Read CEM security data:
1. Volvo’s CEM are located under the co-pilot airbag on the left, the removal of the co-pilot glove;

CEM boxes may have the same appearance, but the back of the circuit wire location is different, can be called type A and B .

Type A: open the lid, pay attention to the black columns in the blue circle on the back of the circuit board, those are four positioning points, stably match them respectively with the white columns on RN-01 board.
Note: The circuit board is coated with insulating glue, it is required to use the washing plate water to wash it off the blue area of the insulation coating in the contact point (solder joint) , or power can not go through, if the needle of RN-01 board is broken, it will need to wire in the corresponding locations.
(First time to use the adapter, please bind it with Lonsdor K518 ISE host, please refer to”Function”)

Type B: Its circuit is different from that of type B, it requires to wire to read immodata, please refer to below wire instruction:

Note: Connect power to read the data, it is required to separate RN-01 board to the motherboard to prevent conduction; welding line should not exceed 15cm.

Read KVM security data:
1. Volvo’s KVM modules are located in the rear of the car rear, right rear wheel position (16 S60L recommended from the right rear door to the wheel direction);

2. Open the module cover, you must first use the washing plate to clean the blue area of the insulation coating,
or power can not go through, please bind it with Lonsdor K518ISE car key progammer host, please refer to”Function”)

Notice
Part of the Volvo KVM data read failure is because the chip model is different, then please:
① use the programmer to read out the data (.bin file);
② Please contact the after-sales (phone / QQ: 4009669130) and send EEPROM data to them, then the engineers will transfer the data into a special file;
③ Then please connect K518ISE to the computer, put the special file into the”file —> feature_35”folder;
④ Please continue programming to select the KVM data from the process.

Attention
1. When programming Volvo 6-button key, be sure to dismantle & read the CEM and KVM, as to their location and how to read them, please refer to the “Operation” or “Reference”.
2. It is required to bind the adapter when using it for the first time, you need to bind it with K518ISE. Go to the device home page and choose “Settings -> Bind adapter”, following the direction to finish binding. One K518ISE host can bind up to 5 adapters, and the bound adapter can not be bound to other K518ISE hosts. Once bound, no need to bind again.
3. For 5-button key, you only need to dismantle&read the CEM in co-pilot storage box to backup security data, for 6-button key, you need to dismantle&read the CEM in co-pilot storage box, as well as the KVM in the right trunk to backup security data.
4. For 6-button key, you need to first insert the key into the key slot and then operate according to the directions.
5. Check if the card is locked when it can’t be inhaled in the key slot, locked key can’t be inhaled, a new card generally will not be locked.
6. When install battery to Volvo models, please pay attention that the two batteries are overlapped, separated by a white paper in between, do not just replace the above one.
Disassemble is also very simple, remove the metal key, in the place where the key lies, please find a little knife with not too sharp blade, gently open it from the gap.

Lonsdor K518 ISE Registration & activation

After system updating, you need go to registration&activation.
For new user, click Registration, input user name(email), name(min 2 char), password(min 6 char), email verification code and click YES to complete registration(if interrupted after registration is done, you will go to the System update–Registered user to proceed). Then go to Activation confirmation to continue.
After confirming activation, it will enter into Setup password interface, please set 6-digit numbers as your startup password. Then after information verification by Lonsdor (5-30 minutes, you can check the progress by clicking “Refresh” ), you will required to re-enter the password to verify, when you get the notification that verification successful, the whole process before using the device is complete.

1. User name must be available email address, so that you can receive the verification code
from Lonsdor by email.
2. Please pay attention to the difference between the registration password (min 6 char) and the startup password(6-digit), the former will generally only used when registration, so please commit the 6-digit startup password into memory, as this will be required every time when you start the device.
3. The account will be bound to the corresponding device for life, other accounts can not log in your device and your account can not log in an registered or activated device either. 4. An account can be used to bind multiple new devices.
