In summary,

It depends on your purpose (diagnostic or coding or programming) and model (Exx or Fxx or others).

 

For Coding, you need different Tools, NCS Expert / SP-Daten for E-Series and E-Sys / PSdZData for F-Series.

All Diagnosis and Coding can be done with cheap DCAN Cable for E-Series and cheap ENET Cable for F-Series.

 

For Programming (Flashing ECU’s with new Firmware), then you need ISTA/P for for both E-Series and F-Series cars, or you can use WinKFP for E-Series and E-Sys for F-Series. For E-Series Programming, you will need an ICOM, but for F-Series Programming, you can use ENET Cable.

Register BMW 7 series Battery with INPA and Toolset32

The battery needs to be registered when you replace it on BMW 7 series (5 series, 6 series etc). Here is the guide to show you how to register new battery with INPA or Ediabas toolset32.

Note: This is just for REGISTERING THE SAME SIZE BATTERY. You are at your risk.

First with BMW INPA software:

first go to file then click F3 then select POW_E65.prg

in the second pic double click the command (steuern_batterietausch_registrieren) just ones and you are done .

remember this is for registering the same size battery not for retrofitting another size , if you want to retrofit 90AGM battery you need to register the battery with DIS/ISTA because DIS/ISTA well register only 90AGM battery , if you want to retrofit another battery size you have to use NCS expert.


FAQ about register BMW battery:
Q: We always used inpa. Should i use both or registering with inpa is enough
A: registering ones is enough , some ppl have problem with INPA registering there battery so i put toolset32 .

Q:  what is this battery thing ( registration ) with what? the car computer ?
So if you take out the battery and say get a sears diehard gold . what happens can someone
explain . will another battery work ( doesn't it just see a 12 volt power supply?

A:You need AGM battery. It must be registered. Otherwise it wont charge properly. Our cars are very sensitive. If your battery is low or doesn't get charged properly u will get different errors and faults. Your car need to know how it needs to charge battery thats why u need to register it. You can go to dealer, or u can set up bmw tools and do it yourself.


Q: Where do i get the software and cables to register my battery??
A: BMW ICOM Next or BMW ICOM A2 with ISTA and engineering software INPA, Ediabas, Ncs expert etc. Check here BMW ICOM NEXT A+B+C with V2017.05 Software ISTA-D 4.05.20
 ISTA-P 3.61.4.002 etc. You can also download ista torrent on forums and use with INPA K+DCAN cable. Better go for INPA. If you are not good using software programmers, you can buy Foxwell NT510 BMW multi-system scanner that can be directly plugged into the OBD II port. It is located by the drivers door Behind a little flap near the lower hinge area. It is more expensive but can do more things and is specifically programmed for BMW/Mini.


Q:
The error above should be with INPA (using INPA ) I get "group file: D_POW.SYS-0012: Identification error" with no space between D and : but the system is making it an emoticon.

I personally went for VM WS installation, because portability is a
very important issue for me.
For those run out of diskspace, like me, I suggest to install Ista+ in VMware WS Ver 12x with Win7 x64 Guest. Earlier VMware versions down to
10 probably will work as well. Diskspace need runs to 350 GB. I used 350 GB diskspace on SSD installed in a caddy sitting in DVD slot of an i3 notebook.
ISTA can be working pretty soon,in case You are following the excellent instructibles of spider80 without missing not a one step of instruction.
X86 apps in VM x64 environment like itoolradar arose a java problem, even when I tried to install an outdated x86 Java version.
Mayor Ista+ / ISTA P working like a charm ( i used icom with latest firmware update ). Running ISTA /P requires good charging
equipment with constant additional load otherwise it will quit session . BMW currentliy advices supply > 70A. For older cars like E-series
25A seem to be ok in my opinion.

How to install BMW E-Sys 3.29.0?
(Steps refer to E-Sys 3.26.1 installation)
Extract E-Sys using Winrar. Right click it and click “extract here”.
Run E-Sys_Setup_3_26_1_b42487.exe
Select language, click “Next” then “I accept the agreement” then “Next”.
Click “Browse” to choose where to install E-Sys. The default location is C:\EC-Apps\ESG\E-Sys.

Set the data path for E-Sys, the default is C:\Data. Click next until the installation begins.

Click “Finish” to complete the basic installation procedure for E-sys.
Then you need to make it work.
You will see two folders, one is a “Patch” the other is “Token Generator”.

BMW ICOM Next Clone Review Runs Faster

Have some words about my new toy BMW ICOM Next A+B+C diagnostic tool from China.

I am using 2017.3 bmw software ISTA-D 4.04.12 ISTA-P 3.60.2.001 Windows 7

 

i first went to ICOM Next with my e38. This car was bought new in 2001 and i only have 65k miles on it but the dash was always lit up like a Christmas tree! since day one this car had electrical issues and every time the dealership said they fixed it, the same issue would pop up… the icom next helped me diagnose the problem and fixe it, with 1 hour!!

 

Then, i took my 2014 (f31) 328ix sport wagon, now this was the cool stuff… i had all these special codes to do some really trick stuff to the electronics like using the key fob to close my rear hatch, roll up the windows and sunroof, as well as fold mirrors when i lock the car. all my phone contacts in my heads up display … icom next is really a cool guy, very laid back and not pretentious whatsoever.

 

And, my friends 2011 128i also benefited a lot. It had some electrical issues, causing the radio not to work and the speedometer, RPM, and gas gauge to suddenly drop and rise while driving. After a quick diagnostic test, I needed a new battery and the entertainment computer system had to be recoded. Within a day, all the electrical problems were fixed!!

 

 

In summary,

 

ICOM Next is faster than the old bmw icom. It is also better built IMHO.

And 2017 Next is WIFI available also.

It handles multiprogramming and coding quite nicely.

Gets the job done much faster if flashing the complete vehicle.

 

Another benefit to Next will be compatibility for future cars.

In two or three years there will be a new ICOM released, that will be probably better etc. That’s how things work.

 

So far, I have had the BMW ICOM Next A+B+C no issues.

BMW E46 Diagnostic and Programming with Carsoft 6.5

Finally, after 3 months of experimenting, copying and deleting files, computer hard drive purging and reprogramming, I have succeeded in making BMW Carsoft 6.5 SP1 work with my E36!
I can now conduct diagnostics and read live data and have access to all of those nice little extras like door lock programming etc..

 

I can view O2 sensor readings, timing, vanos advance, rpm, coolant temperature, airflow, injector signals etc. all using the 20 pin connector under the hood. OBD2 was not adopted as a standard on Australian cars until recently.

 

BUT I tried unlocking the OBC and running a diagnostic with it unlocked – no change in the number of modules accessible. The only modules I have not been able to access are the LCM (this information – VIN number, distance travelled since last service etc is available on my car by running a cluster test), EWS (I don’t have an alarm fitted) and ABS/ASC. For the cost of the interface, it is still the best value around as I can diagnose and reset DME, Aibag, ZKE, EGS and Instrument cluster fault codes as well as initiating autolocking options, changing between display units (temp in F or C, distance in miles or kilometres etc.), viewing live data and resetting service and oil change intervals.

 

 

I am using the 20 pin diagnostic port under the hood as my vehicle does not have an OBDII port. And the interface is marked “BMW compatible interface V6.5” and has LED’s for Power, Service Interval, K-Line Pin 20, K-Line Pin 17 and L-Line Pin 15.

I purchased Carsoft 6.5 from a vendor off http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/bmw-carsoft-65-1062.html and downloaded SP1 direct from the Carsoft Web site.

 

 

The final tip-

Carsoft v6.5 was only designed to work with cars built before April 2004. Later versions (i.e. after v7.0) require a security dongle to work at all – I won’t go through my thoughts on the later versions here, but there are lots of better options available. The software is 32 bit and requires a true serial port to work correctly – as virtually every copy of v6.5 software I have ever seen is a pirated version, the functionality varies from zero to 100%. The only way I can imagine you installing this software successfully on a 64 bit system, would be to install it to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. You need to install Carsoft v6.5.0, then SP1, which will update the software to v6.5.06.
Personally for the amount of functionality you will get from the software, I would suggest using your Carsoft interface as a wheel chock. If you want a computer based diagnostic software solution, consider purchasing either an ADS/OBD (199*-2006) or inpa K+DCAN cable (2000 – 2010) and using INPA (and/or DIS) or ISTA/D (DIAGNOSTICS only). For a wireless solution, look at BMW Icom a2 which will do good at diagnostics, coding and programming. ICOM A2 will give the fullest model coverage: old and new cars (up to the 2017 year).
